Takashi Wakasugi, who you might've spotted on the telly in shows like Taskmaster Australia or the Melbourne Comedy Gala, is playing at the Newcastle Comedy Festival. He even picked up a nomination for the big award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival last year.

Apparently, Takashi reckons stand up comedy is pretty similar to being a samurai. You're just on stage by yourself, it's a kill or be killed kind of vibe, but funnier. He tries to be sharp and quick, while also being as sensitive as a cat yet solid like a very large cloud. It sounds complicated, and frankly, it probably is. He pours his entire being into his jokes, like a warrior makes his sword an extension of himself, but with more laughs and less actual bloodshed. Word on the street, or rather, from overseas critics, is that his shows are "exquisite" and it's even a "genuine joy to be insulted by him." Sounds like a unique and truly dedicated approach to comedy.
