If you've ever found yourself standing in a pub, yelling along to "Beds Are Burning" while wondering why the lead singer isn't wearing a three-piece suit and about to collapse from political rage, this is your kind of night. The Oils are taking over the MV Calmer for a harbour cruise tribute to Midnight Oil, and they promise to hit every note with the same sweaty, shoulder-thrusting energy that made the real thing so memorable. No word on whether they'll also make you feel mildly guilty about climate change, but the music will be loud and the nostalgia will be thick.
It's on June 20, 2026, leaving from Wharf Road in Newcastle, and tickets will set you back somewhere between 35 and 49 Australian dollars, which is pretty cheap for a night of pretending you're at a 1980s protest gig. A quick heads up though, the boat isn't designed for people with mobility issues, so if you struggle with stairs or narrow spaces, maybe sit this one out and blast "Blue Sky Mine" at home instead. Otherwise, grab a ticket, maybe bring a jacket, and prepare to belt out some classic Oz rock without having to fight a crowd at the bar.
