The Australian Army Band Newcastle will be playing in Christ Church Cathedral, bringing brass, woodwind and percussion together for a programme that ranges from military band favourites to softer, more surprising pieces that suit the cathedral acoustics. Expect precise marching tunes alongside gentler numbers that make the space sound even grander than it already is.

Entry is by donation, with funds going to the cathedral's music programmes, including the Choral Scholar programme, so your coins will be doing something useful like supporting young singers rather than just padding the organ's sense of importance. The concert is on Sunday 24 August at 2pm.
