"" is happening on August 14, 2025. It is a chance to hear a couple of local experts chew the fat about conservation efforts in the Hunter region. First up, Dr John Gould from the University of Newcastle will be talking about his work with the Green and Golden Bell Frog. No, it is not about actual bells, but about keeping these endangered little hoppers from croaking their last, particularly the stable population hanging out on Kooragang Island. He will share the lowdown on the research and management keeping these amphibians afloat.
Then, for those with a green thumb and a keen eye for trouble, Geoff Nicholls from HWCA is running a "Wetlands Weed ID Workshop". If you have ever wondered what those sneaky plants are that are muscling in on our native species, Geoff is your man. He is a horticulturalist and a bush regeneration team leader, so he knows his stuff. You will learn how to spot common Hunter Estuary weeds, tell them apart from their innocent native lookalikes, understand why they are such a nuisance if left to their own devices, and get the practical tips on how to effectively show them the door. It sounds like a bit of a detective mission for plants.
