It is Indigenous Literacy Day and the Newcastle City Library is hosting a relaxed morning of book swapping and storytelling to raise funds for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. Bring a book, take a different one home, and if you like, add a donation for the ILF. The program starts at 10.00 am with Uncle Amos sharing language and culture through story, song and the occasional puppet cameo. At 10.30 am there is a screening of the Indigenous Literacy Day film, followed at 10.50 am by a 45 minute live stream from the Sydney Opera House with guests such as Lucas Proudfoot, Bianca Hunt, Josh Pyke and Andy Griffiths celebrating Aboriginal storytelling.

The event is free, tea and coffee will be available and no bookings are required so you can just drop in. If you cannot make it on the day but still want to contribute, visit the Newcastle Libraries Great Book Swap fundraising page to donate to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.
