On June 14, 2025, Musica Viva Australia is throwing a little shindig called "" as part of their 80th birthday bash, because apparently they couldn't think of a better way to celebrate than turning music lovers into wandering souls across Australia. Seriously, they've been at this for eight decades, so it's a mix of nostalgia, innovation, and maybe some cake. The Signum Saxophone Quartet is teaming up with the fabulous Ali McGregor—renegade opera star and all-around powerhouse—to take you on a wild ride through a musical history lesson that goes from grainy black-and-white films to dazzling technicolor sequences.
Prepare yourself for a musical journey that bops between Berlin, Hollywood, Shakespearean dramas, Broadway flair, and even a rodeo. That's right, in this sonic documentary of tumultuous times, you might just find the sounds of a Shakespeare play dancing with the spirit of a Wild West cowboy. You'll be treated to a melange of tunes, from Schulhoff and Weill to Prokofiev and Copland, not to mention a sprinkle of glamour with songs like "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." The whole shebang runs for about 100 minutes, so you'll have just enough time to forget about your laundry at home. Just a heads up, if you're a student, make sure to pop by the ticket office an hour before the concert for a rush ticket, and don't forget to flash that student ID like it's your VIP pass into the musical world.
