Ever wanted to properly understand that whirring sewing machine that's been gathering dust in the corner, or perhaps you just fancy learning how to stitch without accidentally sewing your fingers together. Well, there's good news. Sonny and Scout are running a beginner sewing workshop at Wallsend Library, starting on Monday 28 July 2025 and running for four Monday mornings. Over the course of the program, you will learn the secrets of threading a machine, making sense of fabrics, mastering stitches from straight to zigzag, and even how to sew a curve without it looking like a wonky pretzel. They will also help you decipher those mysterious sewing patterns and explain how to keep your machine purring with a few basic maintenance tips.
Most of the bits and bobs you will need, like fabrics and tools, will be supplied, and there will be machines available to use. However, if your own sewing machine gives you the evil eye every time you walk past, feel free to bring it along so you can finally learn to tame it. This series is for those aged 16 and over, and will set you back 150 dollars for the full four weeks. Just so you know, bookings are essential and handled directly by Sonny and Scout, so make sure you reach out to them to secure your spot.
